Another AMT?

Posted by taxguru on January 30, 2012

As if the current alternative minimum tax calculation weren’t insane enough, some of our DemonRat rulers in DC are considering adding a second one that they are naming after their Class Envy Clown, Warren Buffett.

Democratic Senators to Push ‘Buffett Rule’

Households with adjusted annual gross incomes over $1 million would prepare their taxes as they do now, with all the deductions, credits and loopholes intact. They would also calculate what 30 percent of their adjusted gross income amounts to. They would then pay whichever amount was larger.

How long do you suppose it will take for that million dollar threshold figure to drop and ensnare millions more, just as the current AMT has?

Is Accountant a derogatory term?

Posted by taxguru on January 26, 2012

Some people get all bent out of shape when they are referred to as Accountants, as in this scene from a recent episode of the British TV show, Mad Dogs.

Warning: British TV censorship standards are very similar to what we have on HBO and Showtime in the USA.  In other words, this clip does contain the F word.

More DemonRat Tax Cheaters

Posted by taxguru on January 26, 2012

36 Obama aides owe $833,000 in back taxes

Of course, the state controlled media will continue to ignore these tax cheats and instead spend a ton of time criticizing Newt and Mitt for using completely legal strategies to reduce their taxes.

Federal Employees Owe More Than $1 Billion In Taxes

Accounting will never die out

Posted by taxguru on January 24, 2012

As I constantly remind everyone, the demand for accountants will never disappear.  And, with the unending growth in the size and scope of government, the need for people to handle all of the paperwork will only continue to grow.

This article confirms that.

Posted by taxguru on January 24, 2012

This comes with the territory when you run for high office.

From Conan via NewsMax:

Mitt Romney released his tax records and they showed that he earned $42 million over the last two years. So now the other candidates aren’t running for president. They’re running to be Mitt Romney.

Romney Tax Returns

Posted by taxguru on January 24, 2012

As promised, the Romney campaign has posted copies of several of their family’s income tax returns on their website to be downloaded or viewed online.  As could be expected, all of the news sites are filled with “analyses” of the returns.  Rather than rely on the slanted biases of political pundits, here are links to the actual returns.

Gingrich Tax Returns

Posted by taxguru on January 22, 2012

One of the semi-benefits of the campaign season for the curious is the ability to peer into the private financial affairs of the top candidates, as they bow to the pressure to “voluntarily” disclose their income tax returns.

Newt has already posted copies of his 2010 tax returns on his website:

1040 for Newton & Callista Gingrich (46 page pdf)

990–PF for The Gingrich Foundation (21 page pdf)

According to the 1040 schedules, he also owns some other entities:

Gingrich Productions, Inc. –  C corp that paid Callista $191,827 of W-2 wages during 2010.

Gingrich Holdings, Inc. –  S corp that had a net K-1 profit of almost $2.5 million plus $252,500 of W-2 wages to Newt.

If Newt continues to do well in the race, I wouldn’t be surprised to see calls for him to reveal his corp tax returns as well.

Mitt Romney has promised to post his tax returns on Tuesday.  I’ll post links to them as soon as possible.

We still get no respect…

Posted by taxguru on January 21, 2012

I’m obviously biased, but it seems that when Hollyweird writers need an example of a soul-less person, they often use accountants, as in this clip from last night’s Fringe episode.

“Oh, she’s not dead.  Though in a manner of speaking, she was.
A bookkeeper for an accounting firm.  Can you imagine anything more lifeless?”
