Posted by taxguru on November 13, 2011

Another brilliant idea from the geniuses in DC that went over like a lead balloon.

Wrong reason to choose a tax preparer…

Posted by taxguru on November 11, 2011

I just saw the complete first episode of Ricky Gervais’ new show, Life’s Too Short, and it had the full scene between the main star and his tax accountant.  It is even funnier than the clip I posted earlier; but it also gives more details of how things got in such bad shape.  As too many people do, he had been using the tax services of an incompetent accountant merely because he was a friend.  As is often the case in real life, he now doesn’t have the heart to stop using his friend and will go on paying hundreds of thousands in additional taxes as a result. I’ve lost track of how may times I have heard cases just like this in real life.

Here is the full scene from the first episode.

Translating Liberals

Posted by taxguru on November 9, 2011

How To Speak Liberal: 20 Words And Phrases Translated –  These would probably be more amusing and less depressing if they weren’t so accurate.

Some good ones from the main list:

Compassion: Feeling good about yourself for wanting to give away money you didn’t earn to people you hope will vote for your side.

Greed: Wanting to keep money you’ve earned instead of having it spent on Bridges to Nowhere and government loans to people who’ve contributed to Obama’s campaign.

Taxes: A limitless supply of free money to be given away to liberal special interests in return for votes.

We must address the root causes of this problem: We must not do anything to effectively address this problem. Instead we must raise taxes and pour dump trucks’ worth of money into whatever unrelated issue we have decided is the cause of the problem.

There are also some good ones in the comments section:

Wealth Inequality: You worked harder and or are smarter than me and that’s just not fair.

Fair Share: An amount of taxes that the rich ought to pay; a number that cannot possibly be determined, but is certainly higher than the current amount, whatever that is.

The Rich: Everybody who makes more than a liberal and adamantly refuses to let them continue to waste that money on their well documented failed liberal ideas.

Tax Refund: An amount grudgingly returned to taxpayers who don’t deserve it, but gladly handed out to people who paid no taxes at all.

Bad English Accountant

Posted by taxguru on November 7, 2011

I was watching the first preview episode of Ricky Gervais’ new sitcom, “Life’s Too Short‘” and this scene with the show’s star and his tax accountant cracked me up.  It’s set in England, but could just as easily be here in the States.
