Parent Payback Scheme

Posted by taxguru on May 26, 2018

I recently discovered Gruen, a very interesting TV show from Australia about advertising and marketing topics.  A feature of each week’s show is to have two ad agencies each create a commercial for an off the wall topic.  This week’s Pitch had to do with teaching kids the value of the money their parents have to shell out for them

Joe Bonamassa’s version of TaxMan

Posted by taxguru on March 11, 2018

As I have been doing for decades, I am still collecting and sharing cover versions of George Harrisons classic song that is still just as timely today as when it first debuted on the Beatles’ Revolver album in 1966.

Joe performing the song in concert at the Cavern Club in Liverpool

The New Frantics  perform TaxMan using Joe’s arrangement

I have just set up a new playlist on my YouTube channel for TaxMan covers and will add new ones as I come across them.

CRA-App

Posted by taxguru on January 30, 2018

Americans aren’t the only ones who love to joke about their tax agency, as we can see in this skit from a recent episode of the CBC’s news satire show, This Hour Has 22 Minutes

I have never had any first-hand experience dealing with the CRA, but it does appear that there are some similarities to our IRS.

Facing Off With IRS Auditor

Posted by taxguru on May 27, 2017

The third season of the TV version of Fargo has been very amusing.  This scene from a recent episode, where a cash bank withdrawal of a tiny bit over $10,000 brings in a pushy IRS auditor, is funny in the way that the villain’s henchman handles the auditor.

The henchman cites "Section 41(c) of the U.S. Tax Code" as dealing with the taxpayer’s right to have licensed  representation.  That citation sounded strange to me, so I looked it up in the actual Internal Revenue Code that is included in my main tax reference, TheTaxBook’s WebLibrary.  Section 41 actually deals with  Credit for increasing research activities.  There are paragraphs (a) and (b) under Section 41, but no (c).

Colbert Spoofs H&R Block

Posted by taxguru on April 6, 2017

I’m not much of a Stephen Colbert fan.  However, this recent skit, where he pretends to be a Block tax preparer, does have some funny moments.

The Block skit starts at 1:42

One way to deal with IRS imposters…

Posted by taxguru on September 29, 2016

Sherry found this hilarious video of a guy turning the tables on a telephone scammer who can barely speak English and wants the victim to pay delinquent Federal taxes to IRS by purchasing Target gift cards. There are too many obvious signs that this call is a scam to even count; but some people still fall for these.

There is one very interesting twist to this phone call that I have never seen described in any other accounts of similar scam IRS calls.  After the intended victim reveals that  he is screwing with the scammer, the scammer basically claims to be a Pakistani terrorist follower of Osama Bin Laden.  Has our FBI looked into the possibility that the IRS imposters are funding Islamic terrorist organizations?

Show Biz Tax Breaks (re-post)

Posted by taxguru on June 21, 2016

The panel on The Jeselnik Offensive discusses tax deductions for rappers and comedians.

I had posted this almost three years ago, but just now received a copyright complaint from Viacom via YouTube about its content, so I have uploaded it to WordPress instead.

Can the IRC be made Idiot-Proof?

Posted by taxguru on August 26, 2015

While everyone knows that is impossible, that’s Trump’s goal, according to this clip from yesterday’s episode of NewsBusted.

“You didn’t build that”

Posted by taxguru on May 20, 2015

A recurring DemonRat mantra is that anyone who has done well in what they call “life’s lottery” owes every bit of that success to the government.  Dims, as with their Marxist comrades, actually believe that Big Government is more important to every aspect of everyone’s existence than anything or anyone else, including God.

Ray Stevens just posted this great example of the hypocrisy of this DemonRat philosophy.
.

.
While this video doesn’t focus on it, I found it slightly ironic that one of the examples of success, Ted Turner, became a huge supporter of Marxism after he became wealthy.
