New TaxMan Video from The Beatles

Posted by taxguru on October 15, 2022

For decades, a hobby of mine has been collecting and sharing different versions of George Harrison’s song “TaxMan” which was first heard on the Beatles’ 1966 album, Revolver. For obvious reasons, most of the versions have been covers by other artists and groups. We now have a new 2022 animated video version by The Beatles.

Over the past few years, Giles Martin, the son of the original Beatles producer, George Martin, has been working with the surviving Beatles, along with George and John’s families, to assemble newly remastered versions of their albums, using more modern technology than was available back in the 1960s. They have also included several out-takes and alternative studio versions from the Beatles’ recording sessions.

In a few weeks, on October 28, they will be releasing the new remixed and expanded version of Revolver, which is supposed to include alternative versions of TaxMan. Thanks to this article from the Ultimate Classic Rock website, I learned of this new video of the Beatles singing TaxMan with creative animations of the lyrics. I have already added this to my YouTube TaxMan playlist.

Giving More Power To IRS

Posted by taxguru on August 7, 2022

There is no shortage of news coverage of the Dims’ proposals to give IRS billions more dollars in order to squeeze more money out of everyone. Here are some more humorous approaches to what we may have to deal with if the IRS’s wet dreams do come true.

Funky Instrumental Version of “TaxMan”

Posted by taxguru on February 23, 2022

Although first released in 1966 by The Beatles, George Harrison’s song is still very timely and popular.

Thanks to the Ultimate Classic Rock website for this.

This has been added to my YouTube playlist of TaxMan covers.

TaxMan By Classic Albums Live

Posted by taxguru on December 4, 2020

Classic Albums Live (CAL) is a very talented group of musicians who recreate classic albums on stage.  Many of the albums, such as from the Beatles, were studio masterpieces and never performed in concert by the original groups, so this is quite an achievement.  Over the past three plus years, we have seen them present 13 different albums in Ocala and The Villages and had tickets to several more shows before the pandemic shut them down.

Their shows normally consist of members from their home base in Toronto, plus others who live down here in the USA, including some in Florida.  We were finally able to see them live again a few weeks ago at the Reilly Arts Center in Ocala.

The Canadian members have been held as “prisoners” in their country for the past several months and unable to cross the border.  As many musicians have been doing since this pandemic shut down normal live music venues, for the past few months they have been performing a weekly show in an empty or limited audience theater and streaming the show over the internet.  The shows are free to watch, but voluntary tips are welcomed.

After performing a number of Led Zeppelin albums, they are now in the midst of several Beatles records.  This past Wednesday night, they finally got around to Revolver from 1966, the opening track of which is George Harrison’s “TaxMan” which has been my theme song and phone ring tone for decades.

Here is that first track from that concert on December 2, 2020 at the Empire Theatre in Belleville, Ontario.

You can also stream the entire show via their Vimeo link.  Besides the entire Revolver album, there are several other great Beatles songs, which is how they normally structure their in-person shows.

Blast From the Past

Posted by taxguru on June 9, 2019

From Episode 34 (Season3, Ep 4) of the Beatles Saturday morning cartoon show. Originally aired on Saturday, October 7, 1967.

For those unfamiliar with this show, the speaking voices were not by the actual Beatles, but the singing voices were theirs.

YouTube blocked me from posting this on my channel there. However, I was able to add some more cover versions of the TaxMan song to my YouTube Playlist.

Parent Payback Scheme

Posted by taxguru on May 26, 2018

I recently discovered Gruen, a very interesting TV show from Australia about advertising and marketing topics.  A feature of each week’s show is to have two ad agencies each create a commercial for an off the wall topic.  This week’s Pitch had to do with teaching kids the value of the money their parents have to shell out for them

Joe Bonamassa’s version of TaxMan

Posted by taxguru on March 11, 2018

As I have been doing for decades, I am still collecting and sharing cover versions of George Harrisons classic song that is still just as timely today as when it first debuted on the Beatles’ Revolver album in 1966.

I have just set up a new playlist on my YouTube channel for TaxMan covers and will add new ones as I come across them.

CRA-App

Posted by taxguru on January 30, 2018

Americans aren’t the only ones who love to joke about their tax agency, as we can see in this skit from a recent episode of the CBC’s news satire show, This Hour Has 22 Minutes

I have never had any first-hand experience dealing with the CRA, but it does appear that there are some similarities to our IRS.

Facing Off With IRS Auditor

Posted by taxguru on May 27, 2017

The third season of the TV version of Fargo has been very amusing.  This scene from a recent episode, where a cash bank withdrawal of a tiny bit over $10,000 brings in a pushy IRS auditor, is funny in the way that the villain’s henchman handles the auditor.

The henchman cites "Section 41(c) of the U.S. Tax Code" as dealing with the taxpayer’s right to have licensed  representation.  That citation sounded strange to me, so I looked it up in the actual Internal Revenue Code that is included in my main tax reference, TheTaxBook’s WebLibrary.  Section 41 actually deals with  Credit for increasing research activities.  There are paragraphs (a) and (b) under Section 41, but no (c).

Colbert Spoofs H&R Block

Posted by taxguru on April 6, 2017

I’m not much of a Stephen Colbert fan.  However, this recent skit, where he pretends to be a Block tax preparer, does have some funny moments.

The Block skit starts at 1:42
