Mel Brooks as The Tax Expert

Posted by taxguru on November 19, 2012

Last week, I was downloading comedy routines to put onto an Ipod to cheer up my dad when he was in the hospital.  One of them I found was this bit that was recorded on 5/26/1961 from the Mel Brooks & Carl Reiner album, “2000 & One Years.

Just as with the George Harrison “TaxMan” song, this routine still makes complete sense today, more than 51 years after it was recorded.

R.I.P. Dad

Posted by taxguru on November 18, 2012

It’s freaky how quickly and dramatically things can change course.  Less than a week ago, Sherry and I were planning ways to celebrate my dad’s 85th  birthday on Saturday, November 17, including having some beer and shooting some pool, his favorite sport.

Unfortunately, everything changed, when I received a call this past Sunday morning from his wife, Margie, alerting me to the fact that he was in the hospital in Rogers, suffering from serious heart, lung and kidney problems, which may have been side effects from recent surgery on his left knee.  When we visited with him on Sunday and Tuesday, he was in good spirits and he was looking forward to getting out and having a birthday party.

Wednesday morning’s call to his nurse was promising and Sherry went out shopping for gifts and items for his party.  However, a few hours later, Margie and his doctor called me and told me to get to Rogers ASAP because his heart was failing and he wasn’t expected to make it through the night.  He was alert and lucid when we arrived and he seemed to understand and accept what was happening.

With family and friends around him, he took his last breath at exactly 7:30 pm on Wednesday, November 14, 2012.  It was my very first time being with anyone who was dying, but everyone acknowledged it was a very peaceful passing.  He had a very diverse and interesting life and is sorely missed by everyone who had a chance to meet him.

The official obituary that was faxed to us from the funeral home.  Their posted version.

Memorial services were at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 17 at Stockdale Funeral in Rogers, with viewing and visitation from 10 – 11 AM.

Photos taken by Sherry before and during the service can be seen in this Picasa album.

Ranchers, farmers brace for ‘death tax’ impact –  The IRS grave robbers can’t wait until they can plunder more and more privately held wealth.

Half Your Paycheck To The Government In 2013 –  And even more in high tax states.  It’s the “fair” thing to do, according to our rulers, who know what’s best for us mere mortals.

Some Republican governors soften on taxes –  This is why the GOP is known as having linguini spined leaders.

Man used bogus $100 bills with Lincoln’s image instead of Franklin’s –  More examples of the public education system.  Who was more of a moron; the idiot who made the phony hundreds or the store clerks who accepted them?

Florida restaurateur to impose surcharge for ObamaCare –  Excellent idea.  Too many taxes are hidden from the view of the public.  Of course, the people who were stupid enough to vote for 0Bamao won’t be able to understand this issue.

Retroactive Tax Hike Approved in PRC

California Passes Prop 30, Raises Taxes

Retroactive tax increase passes –  from Spidell

From Tax Info

Rush Limbaugh makes fun of the notion that this new tax on the evil rich will solve all of the budget problems for California.

Transcript of the above video.

California, Here We Come –  From today’s Rush show.

Message to Sacramento: Tax, but don’t overspend –  We all know how it ends up when DemonRats promise to cut spending in exchange for tax hikes.  They always end up breaking that promise.  It’s what did in Bush 41’s presidency, when he fell for the DemonRat lies and broke his “No New Taxes” pledge.  DemonRats have something in their DNA that compels them to raise taxes and spend like there is no tomorrow.  Expecting anything different from them is the definition of insanity.
