PITA Clients

Posted by taxguru on March 1, 2015

I’m sure every tax pro can relate to having had a few clients like in this excerpt from Broad City.  This CPA handled it brilliantly.

Now accepting a limited number of new clients

Posted by taxguru on June 11, 2013

Now that the Tax Season dust has settled, we have evaluated our client load and have determined that we can now take on a few more specially selected clients.  We specialize working with small business owners in the United States who are eager to learn how to legally minimize their tax burden.   As has been our practice, we will begin our professional relationship with the preparation of a detailed and comprehensive report on tax saving strategies that would be appropriate for your business, for a reasonable tax deductible fee.  The tax saving report does not obligate the business owners to have us prepare their future tax returns.  Clients can use us to implement and utilize these strategies, or remain with their current tax professionals with our detailed report.

It is helpful for new clients to be using  a recent version of QuickBooks.  If you choose not to use QuickBooks, our detailed organizer has to be filled out completely and accurately.  Please, no “shoebox” information. It is a must for corporations to be on QuickBooks because IRS requires properly balanced Double Entry accounting, and QuickBooks is the easiest way to handle that.

If you would like to be a future potential client, or would just like one of our tax savings reports, please contact Sherry < NewClients@TaxGuru.org> with your contact information including a short description of your business and the State you live in.

Please put in the Subject, “POSSIBLE NEW CLIENT INFORMATION” or “REQUESTING TAX REPORT”  so we don’t think it’s junk mail.

Thank you. We look forward to starting a few new business relationships.

Clients who fall for tax scams…

Posted by taxguru on September 27, 2011

Anyone who has been in this business for any length of time has had to decide how to handle clients who fall for illegal tax evasion scams.  If they won’t listen to our advice and steer clear of the scams, we have no choice but to cease working with those clients because our acceptance of their involvement in the scams could very easily blow back on us as their tax preparers.  It’s happened to us on several occasions.

This article from Forbes has an interesting look at a case where a CPA may have stuck with his misguided clients for too long and even helped the IRS make a strong criminal case against them.

Can a CPA Bury his Client by Trying to Save Him ?

Thanks to ishade.com for the lead on this.

Q:

Subject: New CPA loves your agreement…

Hi,

Your website is terrific.  Where did you get that fabulous client service agreement?  Did you buy from someplace?

I would love to use it with some minor modifications.  There is another CPA who uses a very similar agreement which makes me think that there are templates out there with interesting client service agreements out there but I am unable to find them.

Let me know your thoughts and have a great week,

A:

Actually, I first wrote that from scratch over 20 years ago and have been tweaking it ever since.

It’s not surprising that you’ve seen it from other tax pros.   Many other tax pros have  asked for permission to use it for their clients and I’ve never had a problem with that.

Please feel free to use it any way that you feel appropriate for your clients.

Good luck.

Follow-Up:

Hi Kerry,

Thank you so much for letting a novice like myself use your hard work.  I certainly do appreciate that!  It is such a good idea to post your fees and have a positive outline of your expectations.  It saves a great deal of surprises and heart ache in the long run.

Thanks again for your support and best wishes to you.
