Life Imitating Art

Posted by taxguru on May 6, 2014

George Harrison’s classic song “TaxMan” has long been a motivating force for many of us in this profession. Even though it was intended to be somewhat satirical, with examples of ridiculous taxes that couldn’t possibly come true, some of our Big Government Rulers have always seen that as a challenge, such as in this section of the song.

If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street
If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat
If you get too cold I’ll tax the heat
If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet

I couldn’t help but think of that when I saw this news story from the Left Coast, where eventually nothing will be left untaxed.

Sen. Introduces Bill To Test Out Taxing Motorists For Every Mile They Drive

For those of you who are new to my blog and websites, I do still have an assorted collection of musical artists performing TaxMan on my ScreenCast site for your listening and downloading pleasure.

Lucky Dube’s TaxMan song

Posted by taxguru on June 27, 2013

For ages, I have been collecting and posting different version’s of George Harrison’s classic and timeless TaxMan song.  During a CPE webinar today, one of the polling questions asked which musical artist hadn’t recorded a song called TaxMan; Elvis Presley, Lucky Dube or The Beatles. The answer was Elvis.

The presenter explained that he had come across a song by South African reggae artist Lucky Dube.  This was news to me; so I searched YouTube and found a number of recordings of Lucky Dube performing this song. One of them even includes the lyrics.

TAXMAN
(Composed by Lucky Dube)

I pay my gardener
To clean up my garden
I pay my doctor
To check out da other ting
I pay my lawyer
To fight for my rights
And I pay my body guard
To guard my body
There’s only one man I pay
But I don’t know what I’m paying for
I’m talking about the taxman x3

CHORUS

What have you done for me lately
Mr Taxman x4

You take from the rich
Take from the poor
You even take from me
Can’t understand it now
I pay for the police
To err…I don’t know why
‘Cause if my dollar was good enough
There wouldn’t be so much crime
In the Streets
They tell me you’re a fat man
And you always take and
Never give

CHORUS

What have you done for me lately
Mr Taxman

Till fade

I had never heard of Lucky Dube before now and was bummed out to read in this Wikipedia article, that he was killed by carjackers in 2007 in South Africa at the age of only 43.  As you can hear in these examples, he sounds a lot like Bob Marley, another reggae artist who died much too young, at 36.

Tax Tax Tax

Posted by taxguru on June 16, 2013

From the Rivoli Revue.

Great new song and video about all of the taxes we have to pay and the armed IRS agents we have to deal with if we don’t do as we are commanded. I can’t tag it as Humor because it is too real and anything but funny.

Singing about the IRS

Posted by taxguru on June 5, 2013

It’s been a few years, but I used to buy the CDs of hilarious political parody songs by the Capitol Steps.  While perusing Pookie’s Toons, I came across this new one on the current IRS scandals, “When IRS Guys Are Smiling.”

While on the Capitol Steps website, I also came across this song from April 15, “Tax Your Children Well.”

DemonRat “Skyfall”

Posted by taxguru on March 4, 2013

Rush Limbaugh had this well done parody of Adelle’s Skyfall, with 0BaMao and his fellow DemonRats lying about budget cuts.  It ends with that braniac Maxine Waters explaining how we could lose 170 million jobs from this minuscule reduction in the growth of the Federal budget.

Great song and video from Ray Stevens.  Unfortunately, this isn’t one of his classic spoofs; but a look at the real mess we have with the current pResident.

I Want Your Money song lyrics

Posted by taxguru on May 1, 2012

I just finished watching the excellent documentary, I want Your Money, that does a great job contrasting the successful capitalist policies of Ronald Reagan versus the destructive Marxist policies of our current affirmative action White House occupant.  It would be great if GOP leaders, especially Mitt Romney, would watch this and use its ideas in the current presidential campaign.

The song over the end credits cracked me up.  It makes a perfect companion track to George Harrison’s classic TaxMan that I have featured so often.  Here is a special video of that song, with the lyrics.
