Our IRS Masters

This time of year, as we all slave away to stay in the good graces of our overlords at the IRS, a little dose of their character should be enlightening.  These are the people we are forced to reveal all of our secrets to or face prison time.

It’s bad enough that so many freelance crooks are scamming innocent people to steal their identities and tax refunds.  Now, it appears that IRS is assisting in these crimes.

Since Commissioner Koskinen’s perjury to Congress last year about the Lois Lerner crimes wasn’t enough to remove him as head tax collector for the country, this news should hopefully do the job.  If only we had some political representatives in DC who understood the need to oppose the bHo Regime’s crimes and destructive actions.

The Capitol Steps, a group that performs political parody songs that usually have a slight leftist tilt, has posted an MP3 version of their song about the IRS attacks on Tea Party organizations.

When I.R.S. Guys Are Smiling

While slightly amusing, it is also a bit sad that such abusive use of government powers against political critics is now accepted as standard practice in this country.

Coverville’s Tax Day Tribute

For a number of years, I have been a big fan of and subscriber to Brian Ibbott’s Coverville music channel on iTunes and website, where he assembles eclectic mixes of cover versions of songs on a particular theme or by certain artists. 

This is the first year that I can recall him doing a full show based on our American Tax Day.  It’s 85 minutes long, with 18 cover versions of songs about taxes and money.  It should be no surprise that it begins with a new version of the song I have been featuring for the past 40 years, George Harrison’s ageless “TaxMan.”

You can listen to the full 85 minute show, download it as one big (97.3 mb) MP3, as well as purchase the songs individually from the Coverville website.

Coincidentally, this is Coverville Episode Number 1120.  While it is labeled as a tribute to the 1040, I don’t know if Brian Ibbott is aware of the fact that American corporations report their income on Form 1120.

While clicking around on the Coverville page for this show, I came across a link to a list of 11 different cover versions of “TaxMan.”  I have some of these already, but others are new to me, as they may very well be for other fellow collectors of this song.

Another Fiscal Rape Victim Refuses to Prolong the Suffering

I love stories like this, where those our rulers consider to have too much money decide that “enough is enough” and move to locations where they are allowed to keep more of their own things.

It would be such a great real world lesson to the spend-crazy rulers in State capitols around the country if they were to watch more of their Golden Geese fly away to lower tax locales.

What does this say about our tax system?

A Tax Court judge and her husband have been indicted for income tax fraud for claiming a lot of phony business deductions, the very thing that Tax Court judges rule on in almost every case they hear.

Tax Freedom Day

Washington DC has its Emancipation Day holiday to mark the anniversary of the signing of the Compensated Emancipation Act, which president Abraham Lincoln signed on April 16, 1862 to free the slaves in DC.

Every year, the Tax Foundation calculates the symbolic annual end of our slavery to all of the taxes we have to pay with Tax Freedom Day (TFD).  Obviously the actual day people reach the freedom of working for themselves instead of working to feed the Tax Beasts is technically different for everyone.  However, as an average nationwide, Tax Foundation has calculated TFD as April 24 this year.  That would be April 25 if this weren’t a Leap Year.

What I found even more interesting is this picture of the Tax Freedom Day by State.  It shows that residents of Mississippi have the earliest TFD, April 5 and with the latest TFD, the prize goes to Connecticut, where TFD is May 21.
